The Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC) in Wad Medani had the honor, on Saturday, 22 November 2025 of welcoming the Resident Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Sudan and the accompanying delegation. They were received by the Acting Director General, Professor Ahmed Hassan Abu Assar, Dr. Amani Ahmed Idris, Director of Technology Transfer and Knowledge Management, Dr. Mohamed Elbagir ElKhawad, Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Dr. Mahasin Ali, Director of the Land and Water Research Center, and Dr. El-Fateh El-Aqib, Deputy Director of the Center.
The welcoming delegation also included Dr. Mashaer Obeid, Ms. Rahila Zakaria, and Ms. Samia Ballah from the Plant Genetic Resources Research Center; Mr. Hamad El-Rayah, Director of the Variety Maintenance and Breeders Seed Center; Mr. Ezzeldin Mohamed Abbas, Head Office Inspector; and Mr. Yasser Abdel Muttalib, representative of the Economic Security Department.
The visit began with a field tour of the Plant Genetic Resources Conservation and Research Centre, where the FAO delegation was briefed on the extent of the damage sustained by the center, as well as the efforts being made by the Agricultural Research Corporation to support reconstruction and rehabilitation of the research infrastructure.
During the meeting, the Acting Director General provided an overview of the Agricultural Research Corporation and its role in supporting agricultural development in Sudan. He also presented the required plan for the reconstruction of the Plant Genetic Resources Research Center and for ensuring the continuity of its scientific and research activities.
For his part, the FAO Representative expressed his appreciation for the warm welcome and affirmed that cooperation between FAO and the Agricultural Research Corporation continues in a wide range of areas, given the Corporation’s extensive expertise and highly qualified human resources, which contribute to strengthening food security and promoting sustainable agricultural development in Sudan.
