The Acting Director General of the Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC), Professor Ahmed Hassan Abu Assar visited Maatug Research Station in Gezira State on Sunday, 31 August 2025. He was accompanied by Mr. Mohamed Khair Hassan, Director of the Oil Crops Research Center; Mr. Hamad Al-Rayeh, Director of the Variety Maintenance and Breeders Seed Center; Eng. Abdel Moneim Dafallah, Deputy Director of the Variety Maintenance and Breeders Seed Center; Dr. Mohamed Elbagir ElKhawad, Director of the Evaluation and Monitoring Department; along with the Agricultural Extension Officer and Media Specialist, Eng. Bushra Habiballah. The purpose of the visit was to review the foundation seed production program for groundnut and soybean crops.
The delegation was received by the Executive Director of Al-Qurashi Locality, the Director of Maatug Research Station, and the station staff. The visit began with a field tour of the seed production plots on the farm’s station, where foundation seeds of groundnuts are being produced in partnership with farmers for the first time. This program aims to train farmers on the adoption of modern agricultural technologies and seed production techniques.
During the meeting, the Executive Director of Al-Qurashi Locality emphasized the significant role played by Maatug Research Station in promoting and disseminating modern agricultural technologies among farmers. Professor Ahmed Hassan Abu Assar commended the station’s pioneering experience and its efforts in training farmers on seed production technologies.
The Acting Director General also held a meeting with the station staff, during which Dr. Fadl Al-Moula Mohamed Nour, Director of the station, reviewed the ongoing activities. He praised the dedication and resilience of the female staff members during the period of conflict, and highlighted the needs related to support staff, specialized training programs to enhance technical capacities, and matters concerning promotions.
In his address, the Acting Director General welcomed the staff and outlined the various activities carried out by the Agricultural Research Corporation during the period following the outbreak of war in Wad Medani and Gezira State. He explained the programs and projects implemented, noting that the reconstruction requirements have already been submitted to the Council of Ministers through the Minister of Agriculture. He further pledged to provide some of the station’s urgent needs and to develop a plan for implementing specialized training courses aimed at strengthening staff capacities in various fields.
Professor Abu Assar concluded his visit by extending his gratitude to the station management and staff for their warm reception, generous hospitality, perseverance, resilience, and dedication to advancing the mission of the Agricultural Research Corporation.
