The Steering Committee meeting of the Strengthened Protected Areas System and Integrated Ecosystem Management Project in Sudan was held on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at the Sovereignty Council Hall in Port Sudan. The meeting was attended by Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed, Secretary General of the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, Major General Police Adel Mohamed Abdalla, Director of the Wildlife Administration, Dr. Eng. Abdel Moneim Osman Hassan, Director of the Rangelands Administration, and Professor Ahmed Hassan Abu Assar, Acting Director General of the Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC), alongside representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and other key stakeholders involved in the project.

In her address, Dr. Mona Ali Mohamed Ahmed, Secretary General of the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources, reviewed the major achievements to date, highlighted the key challenges encountered during implementation, and presented a comprehensive roadmap for the next phase of the project.

About the Project:
The Strengthened Protected Areas System and Integrated Ecosystem Management Project in Sudan is implemented by the Higher Council for Environment and Natural Resources (HCENR) in collaboration with the Wildlife Administration – Sudan, supported by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The project plays a pivotal role in conserving biodiversity, addressing land degradation, and promoting integrated ecosystem management. The Agricultural Research Corporation (ARC) is recognized as one of the principal national partners contributing to the implementation of this initiative.
