Professor Ismat Gurashi Abdalla Mohamed, Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, has directed the Undersecretary of the Irrigation Ministry to form a specialized technical committee, headed by the Director General of Projects, Chief Engineer Hafiz Al-Muqrahi, to address the malfunction affecting the irrigation pipeline at Gezira Research Station. The pipeline was originally constructed to resolve a longstanding irrigation problem at the station; however, it has been beset by multiple technical obstacles since the commencement of its implementation, leading to repeated delays and setbacks.

Background and Rationale

The formation of this committee came in response to persistent correspondence and appeals made by the Director General of the Agricultural Research Corporation, Professor Ahmed Hassan Abu Assar, who closely followed this matter given its considerable impact on research operations at the station. The deterioration of irrigation conditions has cast a heavy shadow over the conduct of scientific experiments, posing serious challenges for researchers in carrying out their daily duties, and adversely affecting the overall progress of agricultural research at the station.

Field Visit and Assessment

The committee conducted a comprehensive field visit today, bringing together representatives from the Mechanical Engineering, Projects, and Pumping Stations Departments, in addition to the station’s management, the Assistant Director General for Administration, the Assistant Station Director, and a representative of the Economic Security authority. Committee members traveled to the pumping station site, inspected the pipeline route, assessed the technical fault identified along the line, and held an in-depth discussion on the nature of the problem and the most appropriate remedial approaches.

Findings and Recommendations

The committee concluded that the problem is resolved and announced its intention to prepare a detailed technical report within two days, covering all identified issues and setting forth recommendations for comprehensive and lasting solutions. The committee will continue its field work to oversee the implementation of these recommendations until a final and permanent resolution is achieved.
